CCA & Microsoft: Joint Office 365 Technical Workshop - Strategies & Approaches

Workshop Overview

Many multinational companies have a global strategy based around the O365 platform. Many of these organizations (where data residency laws to not prevent such an approach) are attempting to deploy Office365 based around a single global tenant.

This strategy often creates performance challenges as it relates to locations based within mainland China.

Local versions of these Office365 capabilities exist within China via 21Vianet. These local versions are currently not fully matched in terms of all capabilities.

Given this situation, many multinational companies are left struggling to develop a specific strategy for their China locations. Do they roll out China on a global (foreign) tenant and optimize the performance as much as possible? Or do these companies pursue a hybrid solution of utilizing local Office365 within China and integrate as best as possible with the global (foreign) tenant.

Since this is such a common problem, it represents a great opportunity for the CCA to add value to its members by facilitating a working session on this topic together with Microsoft.

Workshop Approach

This will be atechnical / solutioning and case study sharing working session. The goal is to discuss detailed technical approaches / options as well as share what people are doing (and their successes / challenges.

This should be an open and honest working session, with participants (Microsoft and CCA member companies) sharing what they are doing; struggles they have had; successes they have had.

Workshop Structure

  •  Introduction of participants (CCA members include brief overview of O365 plans / challenges)
  •  Overview of the “two worlds of O365”:  O365 overseas hosting vs hosting in China @ 21Vianet
  •  High level overview of deployment options and what this means:  Single global tenant / dual tenant
  •  Global accounts normal approach to O365 deployment
  •  Challenges & Solutions
  •  Additional Q&A (Q&A should happen throughout)

Who Should Attend

Those responsible for O365 in China, and technical leaders responsible for the strategy / deployment of O365 capabilities within their organization.
